Modern Operations & Rearing
The Alzu Eggs operation consists of healthy layer hens housed in modern, environmentally controlled layer houses. We strictly adhere to biosecurity measures and maintain a stress-free environment to ensure a consistently high-quality product.
We are one of the few suppliers that produce both free-range and commercial market-ready point-of-lay hens. Alzu Eggs operates two rearing sites dedicated to this purpose. We aim to rear these birds into high-producing laying hens by ensuring optimal housing environments, providing high-quality feed, and adhering to strict vaccination programs. We utilize the latest genetics – specifically Dekalb Amberlink and Hy-Line – alongside comprehensive housing and veterinary practices. As a company, we are incredibly proud of our point-of-lay birds’ performance in the industry.
Our Pride: Alzu Free-Range Eggs
Alzu Free-Range Eggs, is our pride and joy. These hens are kept in open-sided houses where they have daily access to roam freely in lush green pastures under evergreen trees, enjoying the warm summer sunshine. We strictly adhere to free-range poultry management practices to ensure our hens are truly free-ranging. Because our free-range hens are raised in floor-based rearing operations, they easily adjust when moved to their free-range laying facilities.

Food Safety & Quality Control
Food safety and security are central to what we do at Alzu Eggs, which is why our feed rations contain no animal by-products. Quality standards are paramount to our management team and staff.
We proudly comply with statutory and regulatory requirements within our egg pack station’s food safety and quality systems, including SANS 10049: 2019 standards. We are also proud to be associated with major retailers. To maintain these standards, we have implemented state-of-the-art production technology in our facilities. We also place a strong focus on regular internal and external audits for biosecurity, hygiene, microbial testing, and traceability.
The Cull Station
One of our specialized departments is the cull station, where off-grade eggs and end-of-lay chickens are sold. The off-grade eggs come directly from our pack station, which uses a Moba Omnia egg grading machine to efficiently identify and remove all cracked or dirty eggs.
Our end-of-lay chickens are sourced from our high-tech, environmentally controlled laying houses and sold into the market. The cull station is regularly visited and inspected by the SPCA and the Department of Health. We are proud to share that it fully complies with all regulations and standards for housing livestock.
A Little History of Alzu Eggs
Alzu Eggs is a division of Alzu Enterprises (Pty) Ltd, which was founded as a family business in 1968 by Mr. Gerrie du Toit. Today, his four sons act as directors across the various divisions of the enterprise. Mr. Piet du Toit has been the director of Alzu Eggs since its establishment, growing the division from strength to strength. He continues to strive for the division to stay at the forefront of producing high-quality eggs and layer hens.
